Selling: Nothing happens until somebody sells something
Sales Poster
"Selling: Nothing happens until somebody sells something."
The framed poster below was hanging in my office for more than three decades. I took it down when I moved my office and I gifted it to an exceptional and deserving young man that I placed in an inside sales job right out of college. He was promoted at his company 3 times -- first to be a sales representative, then the regional sales representative, and ultimately the national sales manager (3 months before he became 26 years of age). He exemplified, and still does, the message the poster illustrates. It hasn't changed since the day I purchased the poster back in 1977. If anything, it means more today than ever.
Sales is the engine that keeps a company going.
Without someone performing the sales function, no matter how big or how small the company, the entire organization will fall apart.
"Nothing happens until somebody sells something."
That about sums it up.
Yup. That's what selling is. And that's what this young man does each and every day.

All Professions Involve Selling – One Way or Another
“When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years.”
Mark Twain
When I was about 14, I remember my Dad driving me to school early one morning. Out of nowhere he asked me if I knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. Never having given it a lot of thought, I had no real idea. Finishing all of my education, becoming an adult and making a living was a long, long way off. Or so it seemed.
